Injectables
BOTOX® Cosmetic
Every time you smile, laugh, or frown, the contractions of the delicate underlying facial muscles form wrinkles in the outer layer of your skin. Over time, these wrinkles become more permanent, remaining visible even when your face is relaxed. When injected into the skin, BOTOX® Cosmetic, a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, selectively targets and reduces the activity of the muscles that cause fine lines and wrinkles to form. BOTOX® injections are approved by the FDA as a safe, effective treatment for wrinkles and frown lines.
With more than fifteen years of experience in providing BOTOX® therapy, Dr. Mehlmauer has developed a reputation as an expert in facial rejuvenation and the treatment of wrinkles. Dr. Mehlmauer will determine where to administer the injections by examining your ability to move certain muscles in your brow area. The injections are made using a tiny needle, so no anesthesia is needed, and you will be able to return to your normal activities immediately. The actual procedure takes only about 10 minutes. One of the reasons BOTOX® treatment is so popular at Dr. Mehlmauer’s office is that it is a quick, painless procedure with no downtime. The results of BOTOX® Cosmetic injections can last for up to 3-4 months, at which time treatment can be repeated.
Restylane®
Restylane® is an injectable gel designed to eliminate wrinkles and folds in the skin of the face and the lips. Restylane® is a unique and innovative solution to wrinkles, because it is the only filler derived from a substance called hyaluronic acid, which occurs naturally in your body. This gel produces volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. Because Restylane® is not derived from an animal source and is completely biocompatible, patients do not have to undergo an allergy test prior to treatment.
Restylane® is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultra-fine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. Dr. Mehlmauer will give you a nerve block if you are having lip lines filled in. The treatment usually takes only about 30 minutes. Other than some minor redness or swelling, patients usually do not experience side effects. Any reaction to the treatment will subside in two to three days. Our patients love the fact that the effects of Restylane® last up to 60 percent longer than those of collagen injections, and treatment requires no downtime.
Radiesse™
Radiesse™ is one of the longest-lasting injectable fillers available. An average treatment will last between one and two years, but can endure for up to three years! Radiesse™ consists of calcium hydroxylapatite suspended in gel. Because calcium hydroxylapatite is a natural body component, it requires no skin test. Radiesse™ will remain soft and take on the characteristics of the surrounding tissue. It can be used to treat smile lines, or nasolabial folds, wrinkles at the corner of the mouth, vertical lip lines, frown lines, and more.
On the day of your treatment, Dr. Mehlmauer will choose the injection site and may administer local anesthesia. She will then inject Radiesse™ beneath the skin. The entire procedure will take up to 30 minutes. Any discomfort or bruising you may experience can be relieved with medication. You will immediately be able to return to your normal activities, although you may notice some swelling, which will subside in one or two days. Radiesse™ is a very economical choice of cosmetic filler, due to its long-lasting effects.
Juvederm™
Juvederm™ is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid-a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps to add volume and hydration. Dr. Mehlmauer or Dr. Saghari will inject Juvederm™ under the skin to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like the "smile lines" or the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, (nasolabial folds). Juvederm is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Juvederm™ is the only FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler that may last up to 1 yr or longer. Individual results may vary. Juvederm™ does not require allergy skin testing and is proven safe and effective for persons of color. With Juvederm™, the injection process takes 15 to 20 minutes and results are immediate. There's minimal recovery or downtime. The most common temporary side effects following injection include localized pain, inflammation, tenderness and swelling.
Thermage®
Patients who do not wish to undergo an invasive procedure or be required to take time off from their daily activities can now regain a more youthful appearance without surgery. Thermage® is a revolutionary skin-tightening procedure which requires no incisions or recovery time.
As we grow older, the collagen that provides structure to our face begins to break down. As a result, fine lines and wrinkles begin to form. Thermage® works by stimulating the growth of new collagen, gradually reducing wrinkles and renewing facial contours. It is performed with an advanced radio frequency device called ThermaCool™ TCTM.
During the procedure, Dr. Mehlmauer uses the ThermaCool™ TCTM to deliver radiofrequency (RF) energy to the skin, controlling the amount of RF energy in order to ensure your comfort while producing optimal results. The ThermaCool™ TCTM heats a large volume of collagen in the deeper layers of the skin while at the same time cooling the outer layer and protecting it. This causes deep structures in the skin to immediately tighten.
Over time, the skin will further tighten, resulting in healthy, smooth looking skin.
Fraxel® Laser Treatment
Acne scars, “mask of pregnancy,” brown spots, and fine lines caused by aging can now be effectively treated using the Fraxel® laser. The Fraxel® laser is an innovative new laser system that can resurface and rejuvenate discolored and sun-damaged skin without causing a visible wound or requiring a prolonged, uncomfortable healing period.
Rather than treating the entire skin surface at one time, the Fraxel® laser creates a pattern of evenly spaced microscopic laser “spots” surrounded by normal undamaged skin. This fractional treatment allows the skin to heal much faster than if the entire area were treated at once, using the body's natural healing process to create new, healthy tissue to replace skin imperfections. Repeated treatments create additional spots, until the entire skin surface is treated.
After treatment, you will experience a mild sunburn sensation for about an hour and then minimal discomfort. The skin will have a pinkish tone for five to seven days. This is a normal sign that the skin is deeply healing. Swelling is minimal and generally resolves in two to three days.
Affirm Anti-aging Laser
Cosmetic lasers are proven to effectively treat the wrinkles, photo-aging and skin discolorations that time and sun have wrought. The Affirm reverses the signs of aging by stimulating collagen production and promoting tightening through tissue coagulation.The treatments are simple and safe for all skin types. The Affirm improves overall skin texture and makes your skin appear more supple and full. The Affirm anti-aging treatment should cause only minimal discomfort. Any redness, swelling or puffiness that occurs can be gone within a few days,if not a few hours. Patients may require from 3 to 4 treatments to achieve desired results, although results may vary. Each session will last from 15 to 30 minutes and are down here in the office.
Sculptra®
Scupltra™ is a long-lasting, clinically proven treatment that can smooth deep lines and wrinkles and restore facial volume lost to the body's natural aging process.
There are many options when it comes to reducing the visible signs of aging- but there is nothing quite like Scupltra™. Referred to by some physicians as a "Face lift in a bottle", Scupltra™ represents a new and unique non-invasive option that helps facial skin naturally regain a more youthful and natural-looking appearance.
Scupltra™ is derived from fruit acids, it is a biocompatible and biodegradable injectable material known as poly-L-lactic acid that naturally stimulates the body to produce its own collagen.
The result is a fuller, smoother, more youthful and natural-looking face with less pronounced lines, wrinkles and folds. Unlike traditional treatments Scupltra™ results can last up to 2 years!
IPL Photo Rejuvenation
IPL Photo Rejuvenation can be used to treat redness caused by acne, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, and facial veins, as well as the fine lines and wrinkles caused by aging or sun damage. Unlike other laser therapies, the visible light energy from IPL Photo Rejuvenation is absorbed by the pigment in the skin’s surface, while the energy stimulates the production of collagen from within.
During the treatment, Dr. Mehlmauer uses a machine that emits intense pulses of light to penetrate all the layers of the skin. Collagen and blood vessels under the top layer of skin constrict, reducing redness, pore size, and age lines. A series of five or six IPL Photo Rejuvenation treatments are administered at three- to four-week intervals.
Most patients experience only mild discomfort and may develop facial pinkness. Patients can return to work or resume their normal activities immediately after the procedure. After one or two treatments, your skin will have a more even tone and a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will start to fade, and pores can become less apparent. Fine lines and wrinkles may soften over time. These improvements continue with each treatment.
Cosmelan® Depigmentation
Cosmelan® depigmentation treatment can be used to treat melasma, a dark skin discoloration found on sun-exposed areas of the face. Melasma is a very common skin disorder, caused by an over-production of melanin in the skin, and often associated with the female hormones estrogen and progesterone. Cosmelan® depigmentation treatment acts by blocking tyrosinase, the basic enzyme in the melanin formation process.
Prior to depigmentation treatment, Dr. Mehlmauer will thoroughly cleanse the surface of the skin by removing any dead cells and oily residues. She will then apply a facial mask over the surface of the skin. The time required for the cream to act completely will be determined by a patient’s skin type. After the in-office treatment, the depigmentation is followed by the application of Cosmelan® 2 cream, which ensures the permanence of the initial depigmenting treatment. Cosmelan® 2 cream is applied to the entire area of the skin to be treated, three times a day during the first week, twice a day during the second week, and once a day after the third week.
Cosmelan® depigmentation treatment works quickly and is one of the most effective treatments for melasma available today. It is compatible with all skin types, and treatment can be easily adapted to suit the needs of each individual patient.
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical, exfoliating treatment which helps repair facial skin that is showing the negative effects of aging and sun exposure. Microdermabrasion improves skin texture, uneven skin color, dull patches, fine lines, sun spots, and age spots. It can also aid in the treatment of acne and acne scarring, clogged pores, and blackheads.
Dr. Mehlmauer uses a device like a fine sandblaster to spray tiny crystals across the face, mixing gentle abrasion with suction to remove the dead, outer layer of skin. Following treatment, patients have the benefit of a smooth complexion and healthy glow. Microdermabrasion can be used to treat the face, neck, chest, hands, and back. Patients love that it is safe and quick, and that there is no downtime!
The treatments take about 20 minutes each and are typically scheduled one to two weeks apart. To achieve optimal results, several treatments are recommended.
Laser Hair Removal
New advances in hair removal have made getting rid of unwanted body hair quicker and less painful than ever before. Old methods of hair removal are time consuming, can cause irritation, and must be repeated frequently. Laser hair removal gently and effectively removes unwanted hair using a low energy laser. Unlike electrolysis, which is time-consuming and more painful, laser hair removal can treat a larger area all at once by simply scanning the area with the laser. Since the laser treats more than one hair at a time, it is possible to treat larger areas such as the back, shoulders, arms, legs, and face.
First, the area to be treated is cleansed and shaved. Then the area is scanned with the laser. The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser energy and within a fraction of a second, the hair follicle is disabled. After your laser treatment your skin will be smoother and silkier, and your hair will typically grow back slower and thinner. The number of treatments needed to achieve your optimal results depends on the area you wish to have treated and the color of your skin and hair.

LATISSE® is the first and only FDA approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes. It's a once-a-day treatment you apply topically to the base of your upper eyelashes. Patients in a clinical trial saw results in as few as 8 weeks with full results after 12 to 16 weeks.
